The Maracatu Masterclass weekender on the 22nd and 23rd May was a huge success. 20 students form different backgrounds over the course of the weekend attended the classes. 4 Leaders from Beatndrum, Dance NI, Samboeire Sligo and Carnival Creations developed movements and styles of Northeastern Brasil’s Maracatu tradition.
The classes were productive and easy going and a sense of ownership of the movements was developed. Classes were well attended, and at the end the group along with the aid of six percussionists, went into Botanic Gardens and showcased the movements and dance learned over the weekend, gaining new interest with the Sunday sunbathers.
